M Lees and Sons has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The powerfully depicted lion with an open mouth having a hole for the water spout or source. Good cast detail to the mane , eyes , teeth and nose. Has been manufactured with 4 holes to the surround to enable wall fixing and mounting .

In excellent condition , with a lightly-weathered patina. Some minor discolouration from the previous fixings around the mounting holes.
Highly decorative wall-mask which would work equally well in an interior or exterior setting as a fountain or simply a decorative object.
