Rare Antique English Burr Walnut and Sterling Silver Tantalus - 1901

1900 - 1920
Sold by Puckerings
Description

A fabulous and rare find, most Tantalus like this are all the metal fittings made in silver plate, this one has all of it's fittings made from English sterling silver, all hallmarked for London 1901, making this a late Victorian / early Edwardian example.

The frame is made from wonderful burl Walnut with it's rich toffee colouring which only comes with age. This would have been a travel sized Tantalus, each cut crystal bottle measuring 2 1/2" square x 7" tall. All the decanters came with these wonderful hand painted ceramic labels made by Crown Staffordshire, I think one may have been skillfully replaced by the previous owner, having a slightly later mark but purchased from the creme de la creme of Mayfair retailers, Thomas Goode and Co.

A superb example in excellent condition. 11 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 9 1/4" tall to top of silver handle.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
