James Latham (Irish 1696-1747) Portrait of a Young Man,half length,
 
wearing a green coat in a painted oval .oil on canvas. The size of the painting is 76cm x 64cm( 30 x 24 inches approx)
 
and with frame 90 x 80cm (35.5 x 31.5 inches approx.)
 
James Latham (c. 1696 – 26 January 1747)
 
was an Irish portrait painter. He was was born in Thurles, County Tipperary
 
Anthony Pasquin memorably dubbed Latham ''Ireland''s Van Dyck''. Latham died in Dublin on 26 January 1747.
 
He studied at Antwerp and practised in Dublin as a portrait painter in the first half of the eighteenth century,
 
attaining a high reputation in his profession.
