Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1890s.

The rim wrapping around the lens is very early celluloid to appear like Tortoise Shell; it it's day the invention of this miracle material was celebrated and used on the finest of articles.
The handle is wrapped in a typically Victorian gold coloured mount in the form of a belt; the handle terminates in a highly decorative ornate sphere with an inset Tigers Eye to both back and front.

Dating to c.1890 it remains in superb condition with a good magnification ready for many more years of use. 10 1/2" in length with a glass diameter of 4 1/2".
