Pair Railway Lanterns Dated 1864

19th century
Description

This pair of oil lanterns are in good condition and still in working order, and we believe they were old Railway lanterns.

Made of cast iron, one has the original brass label on the top which reads:

ALEX KENYON & CO

LAMP

PATENTEES

MAKERS

MANCHESTER

Both lanterns have all of the original oil parts with a brass top, one side of each reads: PATENTED MARCH 1864.

We decided to sell them as oil lamps and not convert them to electricity, but we could ask our electrician to quote for converting them if required.

They measure 39cm in height, 50cm including the handle at full length; the main body is 15cm and with the iron cage around the width is approximately 21cm.

They can be viewed in the Surrey area, and quotes can be obtained for delivery. For mainland UK only, delivery costs have been included in the price. The price is for the pair.

Declaration

Lancaster Antiques has dated this piece to the 1860s.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
