Mid C18th George II period ''red walnut'' chest of drawers.
Smart chest of two short over three long drawer configuration, raised on tall bracket feet. The oak-lined drawers all fitted with original period shaped brass plate handles and solid plate escutcheons .
Completely original throughout with minor marks and wear commensurate with age and use. Original oak back-boards. Original locks and working key.
So called ''red walnut'' or ''Virginia walnut'' from the Eastern part of North America ,was imported in the second quarter of the C18th for cabinet-making following the decline of European walnut timber stocks following the blight and harsh winters which greatly affected it''s availability.
Good rich patina and pleasing colour having been waxed and cared for by its previous owners for 4 generations.
