VERY RARE SOLID SILVER FRUIT KNIFE & PEELER WITH MOTHER OF PEARL HANDLE, SHEFFIELD 1903/1914
A very rare and unusual fruit knife with a solid silver blade and mother of pearl handle. It has an unusual lateral point or spike, probably for peeling oranges. The silver part of the handle is embossed while one side of the blade is engraved. The end of the mother of pearl handle is finely carved with a palm leaf pattern. The blade is clearly hallmarked Sheffield 1914 with maker’s marks for Walter Trickett. The silver part of the handle is hallmarked (a little less clearly) for Sheffield 1903 with the maker’s mark for William Yates.
Condition:
Excellent used condition (see photos). The mother of pearl is in unusually perfect condition for its age with no chips, cracks or blemishes. The blade is in very good condition with just some very minor tarnishing.
Measurements: 15.8cm x 1.5cm x 0.9cm approx
