A 9 Carat Gold Imshi Trench Watch

A 9 carat gold Imshi trench watch.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement with seven jewels which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes or so over 24 hours.

The watch measures 31mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs … it would suit a man with a slimmer wrist or it could be worn by a lady. The case is 9 carat gold and there are hallmarks inside the hinged case back for Birmingham 1927 with a maker’s mark for the English watch case maker Aaron Dennison. The movement would have been imported from Switzerland to be cased and subsequently retailed within the UK. The case is in good condition with just a slight indentation to the back.

The dial is in beautiful condition with just one faint hairline crack rising up from the number 10. It is signed with the word Imshi which was military slang for ’go away’. Imshi was also the name given to a car in two 1920s publication called The Adventures of Imshi, a two seater car driven by the author around various countries. Original hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch has an unusual safety feature in that when you pull the winding crown out to initially set the hands, the winding crown is turned very slightly anti-clockwise to make it engage, thus preventing accidental altering of the hands, and then it is adjusted as normal by turning the hands clockwise.

The watch has a vintage strap which has been sewn onto the lugs so it could well be the original.
