Atropos Antiques has dated this piece to the 1880s.

This mahogany cabinet would have been used in the field or study, to hold, in safety, set specimens still on the setting board until dry and ready for transfer to the cabinet or store box. Normally smaller in construction and never before in my experience, labelled with a makers name.

The cabinet has two lockable doors, one opening to the drying chamber with perforated zinc for air flow and the rear door to a corked and papered area for the inspection and selection of set or pre-set specimens. Both locks work perfectly and have the original keys and the cabinet has an inset campaign style carrying handle to the top.

A comprehensive stock of original setting boards are held within on bearer runners.
