A Racing Shoe worn by Flying Dutchman in the most famous Match race of all time v Voltigeur on May 13th 1851 at York. The Shoe applied to a brass plate with inscription Flying Dutchman, Winner of the Great Match May 13th 1851.It is presented and framed with picture of Great Match, his Pedigree and Race Career. Highly Collectable.

This originally was purchased from a collector who inherited it from his grandfather and was believed to come from the Briggs family. Harriet Elizabeth Briggs (1829 -1902) was the neice of John Fobert, the man who trained the Flying Dutchman at Middleham. She married into the great Dawson racing dynasty of trainers, her husband was Joseph first at East Isley , Berkshire before Heath House then Bedford lodge at Newmarket
