Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A verdure tapestry is a historic style of woven wall hanging dominated by lush botanical foliage, woodland landscapes, and wildlife motifs. Originating predominantly in French textile centres such as Aubusson and Felletin from the sixteenth century onwards, these textiles were created both for insulation and interior decoration.

Traditional French tapestries are woven on high-warp or low-warp looms using natural fibres, primarily wool for structural durability and thick weft threads, often combined with cotton or silk for fine highlights. The design is executed by following a full-scale painted cartoon placed behind or beneath the warp threads.

Authentic woven pieces display irregular organic texture, variable thread tension, and distinct backings that reveal hand-stitched lining or exposed reverse threads. Comparing colour oxidisation on the front with unfaded yarns on the reverse side also provides evidence of age and material composition.

A large tapestry serves as a central focal point when hung against a neutral plaster or painted wall in a hallway, dining room, or living space. Pairing the textile with structured contemporary furniture or traditional dark wood antiques creates a balanced visual contrast.

Tapestries should be supported evenly across the top edge using a velcro strip attached to a wooden batten to prevent uneven stretching. Keep the textile away from direct sunlight and high humidity, and clean gently using a low-suction vacuum cleaner covered with a protective mesh screen.
