A Gents 1950s Boxed Waltham Wrist Watch

A gents 1950s boxed Waltham wrist watch.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement, with 21 jewels, which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes or so over 24 hours. The movement is signed with the Waltham name.

The watch measures 33mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is rose gold plated and the condition is good with just a little wear along some of the angled edges. The signed stainless steel case back states that the watch is waterproof but, as with any vintage watches, this should not be relied upon.

The lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in its original finish and there is some light freckling. Original hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and a date display (initially set by winding the hands forwards).

A new brown leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in an American Waltham box from the same era … Waltham (US) opened up a subsidiary branch in Switzerland in the 1950s so it is quite feasible that the box came from the US and the watch from Switzerland.
