Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1870s.
Surmounted by an urn, with four 'pineapple' finials, it is mounted with a superb porcelain panel to the front of hand-painted putti on a royal blue ground, with matching curved panels to either side featuring birds.

The eight-day movement strikes hours and half-hours on a bell and is signed Howell of Paris, whilst the perfect enamel dial is similarly signed. This is a really good quality and decorative French clock.
