Antique Silver Mounted Leather Tankard. Circa 1875

19th century
Description

Most unusual continental stitched leather large tankard with silver rim and vacant cartouche to body. Lined with copper within. All in fine un-touched original condition. Although it bears the silver import marks for Birmingham in 1909 the tankard appears to be of an earlier date almost certainly made in the 19th century, possibly earlier. The leather has a lovely deep rich almost black colour with superb waxed patina.
