This clock is of the most superb quality and finish, the red veneer has mellowed to a beautiful antique red-brown and the combination of the red veneer, brass inlay and ormolu produces the most sumptuous effect.
Ormolu mounts are by the famous bronze foundry "Compagnie des Bronzes" of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Brussels. The company built an international reputation for monumental bronzes, producing many important items. Their signature mark is on the lower mount and most individual pieces are also marked.
The case is glazed to three sides to allow the ormolu sunburst pendulum to be seen swinging. The floor of the case is veneered with chequered shell and brass to produce a trompe l’oeil effect. Beautiful and elaborate Boulle work also decorates the inside of the back door. Elegant, slender uprights are veneered with delicate Boulle work floral swags. Nike, goddess of strength, speed, and victory stands on top of the clock holding a palm branch.
Large dial is bronze mounted with 12 individual enamel cartouches covered by convex glass. It is complete with the original hand-cut blued steel hands.
The Vincenti Antique French movement is of superb quality and the Vincenti signature is on the movement backplate. It is the large square plated version of the Pendule de Paris movement, with Brocot type pin-pallet escapement and rack striking. We have fully cleaned and overhauled the movement which is excellent working order. It strikes the hours and halves on a coiled gong which is suspended from the top of the clock; the video below shows this clock running and striking.
Condition of the case is excellent, Ormolu has a clean and bright finish with hardly any wear and there are no losses. The shell is also in very good condition, some slight cracking, tiny losses and minor discolouration in places; it has mellowed to a beautiful antique red-brown. Brass inlay is in excellent bright and clean condition, some very slight lifting above the top right of the dial, but it is perfectly secure, the rest of the Boulle work is excellent. Dial is also in excellent condition with no chips or scratches to the cartouches.
