Collinge Antiques has dated this piece to the 1860s.
These chairs share a number of features with Pugin’s design for the House of Lords chair, most obviously the carved octagonal section column front legs, but also the out-swept foot to the rear legs and the recessed hand grip to the rear of the backrest. Remarkably these chairs retain what appears to be their original tooled leather covers and brass studded trim. The front legs also feature original brass castors partially hidden inside a recess to the foot. Presented here in very good unrestored condition, solid and sturdy with only minor wear to the covers.
Dimensions: width 19", depth 20", height 35".
