Thomas Russell Silver Fusee Hunter Pocket Watch

A small Thomas Russell silver fusee full hunter pocket watch.

The watch has a key-winding movement which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours. The movement is signed, ’Thomas Russell & Son, Liverpool & London‘ and it also has a serial number which is repeated inside the case which confirms that the movement and case are original to each other.

The movement is protected by an inner fitted case which carries the wording, ‘Makers for HM The Queen & HRH Prince Alfred‘ (Prince Alfred was the second son and fourth child of Queen Victoria).

The watch measures 46mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop so it is slightly smaller than the standard 50mm pocket watches. The full hunter case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for Chester 1880 with the Thomas Russell maker’s marks. The case is in good condition with just two or three small minor indentations and some rubbing to the pattern on the front which is as expected with a watch of its age. The button on the top of the stem pushes to open the cover although it needs a little help with a thumbnail. There is some wear to the top of the loop where it has hung from an albert.

The watch glass is in lovely condition.

The signed dial has three short faint hairline cracks underneath the subsidiary seconds dial but otherwise looks good with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
