Ww1 Royal Flying Corps Issued Cockpit Watch And Original Brass Holder, Circa 1916
Status:This item has been sold Sold by:Oliver Sargent Antiques
For sale is this very fine and rare WW1 Royal Flying Corps issued 8 day cockpit watch and original issued brass cockpit watch holder, circa 1916. The 8 day watch by Etienne & Cie has an almost mint unrestored dial and original hand set. It is in full working order holding time. The case back with the crows foot WD mark which is correct for this version. Snap movement dust cover and pale gilt unsigned movement all again in excellent condition. The centre section of the case now showing brass and has lost almost all original plate, through wear. The rare brass correct holder for this watch is military issue marked AP302 on the back and is fitted with deep blue velvet to the inside for watch protection. The outer case retains its original bevelled glass. Its almost as though its just been unscrewed from a cockpit bashboard and tucked away for safe keeping. Very rare. For other examples see pages 391, 392, 394 and 396 British Military Timepieces, by Konrad Knirim.
