George III Old Sheffield Plate Tea Caddy

Description

A very pretty and good 18th century Old Sheffield Plate TEA CADDY of oval shape.

The lid, with its 'axehead' hinged handle, has an engraved centrepiece with incised decoration whilst the front has a fine incised cartouche engraved with initials. The upper and lower edges of the oval body are applied with pretty 'anthiemon' mouldings; the lid is hinged and it is complete with an inner lock.

*Made by Fenton, Creswick & Co., in the fourth quarter of the 18th century.
