A very elegant and slim French Empire period mantel clock of small proportions and in excellent original condition, the ornate case themed with mythology.
The gilt bronze pierced frame features two crowned phoenix birds flanking the skeletonised movement, and with a dragon pendulum suspended between the two. It is surmounted by a frame on which a basket of flowers apparently hangs and above it, a flaming urn. The frame is mounted on a heavily veined grey marble base on turned feet. The clock is a mere 4-inches in depth.
The 4-inch convex white enamel dial ring has an outside minute track, and gilt engine-turned inner ring.
The French 8-day open movement with silk suspension is outside countwheel striking on a large bell, with a good clear ring.
Height: 17" (44.5 cms)
Width: 8" (21.5 cms)
Depth: 4" (10 cms)
The movement is to be overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
