The Vintage Wrist Watch Company has dated this piece to the 1950s.
The movement is signed J W Benson, London and it has the Smiths reference number.

The watch measures 32mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is plated and there is a little rubbing on the lugs but all very acceptable for a 1940s piece.
The lens is in good condition.

The dial is signed J W Benson, London, Made in England. J W Benson was a high end watch maker and retailer with an elite client base made up of both British and European royalty and a selection of well heeled industrialists and business figures. The dial is in its original finish and it has fantastic appeal with a subtle two tone finish, blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track. There is some marking to the dial, mainly around the perimeter, but overall it is a very nice example of an English made watch made for the English market.
A new black leather strap has been fitted.
