GASTON d'ILLIERS: a good late 19th century BRONZE FIGURE of a thoroughbred racehorse entitled: "Avant la Course" (Before the Race).

The horse stands patiently and alertly, ready saddled for the race ahead. Inscribed to the base and signed by the artist. 10ins long (max) and 7.75ins high (25.5 x 20cms).

* Gaston d'Illiers was born in Boulogne (France) in 1876 and exhibited in the Salon de Artistes in 1899. He favoured equestrian figures and groups, whilst his later work was inspired by the First World War.
