Chesterfield Sofa by Hamptons of Pall Mall. C.1880.

Description

19th.c. low back chesterfield sofa by the great Victorian makers and retailers Hampton & Sons of London c.1880. Seven feet long with buttoned upholstery, scroll arms and a sprung seat. Covered in a pale green silk damask. Raised on especially good turned mahogany feet front and rear and retaining the original brass and pot castors, the rear right hand one carrying a stamped mark for Hampton & Sons Pall Mall. Good solid unrestored condition, serviceable upholstery with a slight mark to the seat.

Hampton & Sons were established in the Leicester square area of London in 1830, moving to a very large and prestigious Pall Mall showrooms in 1869. They offered a complete service to clients from surveying and building to the fitting and furnishing of interiors. In business until 1960 their clients included the royal family for whom they provided furnishings for the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Dimensions: width 84", depth 36", height 28".
