The Hellenistic bronze original executed in 3rd century BC , the lost Roman marble copy was rediscovered in the C17th whilst excavations were made at the Villa Ludovisi in Rome .
Depicted wearing his neck torc, and lying upon his discarded martial equipment , shield and sword .
Dark patination of consistent colour.
Examples grace the fine museum and Country House collections of the world , such as Blenheim Palace and Syon Park.
