Description

Amongst the various rugs of the Timuri nomads, this prayer-rug is rare in colour and border design. Although the palette of glowing indigo-blue is a large part of the Timuri colour repertoire, the use of yellow in the borders is rare - a colour more associated with the Ersari Turkmen. Strangely enough, the inner border is a design used by the Ersari - even the main border has a Turkmen influence! However, the overall 'tree' pattern in the indigo-blue field is found on the prayer-rugs of the Dokhtar-e-Qazi, a Timuri sub-tribe in western Afghanistan. Nevertheless, the weave is undoubtedly Timuri - a tribe with possibly Ersari Turkmen neighbours. The condition of the rug is very good overall with only some minor wear towards the upper section of the rug, near to the hand-panels.
