Description

This rare and magnificent Ru Korssi nearly found a home with me but ...... one can't keep everything!!

The ru korssi was the decorative cover for the mangal - a small square wooden frame, covered with blankets under which were placed bowls of burning charcoal. The nomads would tuck their feet under the blankets to warm themselves and on top of the blankets was placed the ru korssi. This piece was made by Baluch tribes during the last quarter of the 19th century and has a plain-weave natural camel-hair central field containing two 'trees-of-life' and surrounded by a wide madder-red border in knotted-pile. Note the tiny quadrupeds woven into the area around the base of the trees - quite charming!

Size: 1.10m x 0.92m (3' 7" x 3' 0").
