Rare Antique English Figural Novelty Cruet in Silver Plate - Donkey - Reg. 1869

Description

A highly sought-after figural table cruet on wheels to move around the dinner table. The naturalistic base sits on the three wheels and is mounted with a donkey beautifully cast. The donkey drinks from a trough which is in fact an removable open salt, lavishly gilded.

The donkey "wears" both the mustard pot and pepper pot. The donkey is struck with an English design regsitration diamond shaped lozenge which is wonderful as it allows us to date the design registration accurately, in the case it is 25th March 1869, so a wonderful Victorian example.

Excellent condition measuring 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" x 4 3/4" tall.
