Antique George Betjemann Bookslide/bookends

A rare George Betjemann walnut bookslide with four inset polished ''tiger eye'' agates on either end surrounded by fine brass rope stringing.It is of the self closing variety but as can be seen in the photographs the springs are missimg from the mechanism.This excellent bookslide dates from around the 1880''s and the Patent number is 10100.It is in the Gothic revival style of the early Arts and Crafts period.George Betjemann was the great grandfather of the Poet Laureate and broadcaster Sir John Betjemann.When closed the bookends measure 16''/41cm in length.It extends to 25.5''/64cm.It''s depth is 7.25''/18cm and height 7.5''/19cm.
