Art Nouveau Marble and Alabaster Lamp

1900 - 1920
Description

This is a rare find; an alabaster and marble lamp in excellent condition.

The naked figure is standing on three dolphins, whose tails curve around the back (see photo 5) to hold the light fitting in place.

The figure is a cream colour; the shell is cream at the top going down to a pale pink, and the dolphins are more pink in colour than appear in some of the photos. We have tried to show the naturally occurring marks in the alabaster and marble and this has made the dolphins look more brown than they are.

There is slight rubbing on the dolphin's noses, and on the edges of the grey marble base (photo 1& 3) but it's barely noticeable.

The lamp is 46cm in height; 27cm across the shell; and it stands on a 19cm diameter base. The figure is 37cm tall.

It is difficult to date, but we suggest it is from around 1910-1930.

It is extremely heavy, and we would prefer to have courier delivery to ensure it remains undamaged. It can be seen in the Surrey area by appointment, or alternatively please contact us via email to discuss delivery options.
