Antique Silver ¾ Plate English Pocket Watch

A late Victorian English silver pocket watch by the Errington Watch Company.

The watch has a ¾ plate stem-winding movement which is ticking away well and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for Chester 1896, with the maker’s mark for the Errington Watch Company (Charles Errington). There are a few small indentations to the back but overall the condition is good for a watch of its age.

Charles Errington was listed as an engraver in 1875 and he subsequently had a small factory finishing movements from Berry of Prescot. The business was sold to H Williamson around 1896, although he continued to manage the factory. This particular watch would have been one of the last made under the Errington Watch Company name.

The watch glass is in good order.

The enamel dial is in lovely condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch comes with a silver watch chain, 29.5cm long including the T-bar and clasp. There is also a nickel fob and two WW1 coins.
