A Fine George III Mahogany Cabinet on Stand. Circa 1800

19th century
Description

A fine and very original george III mahogany bookcase/cabinet on stand in the chippendale style circa 1800.

This beautifully carved and richly coloured cabinet on stand is from my own collection and was purchased privately in 1989. It has been with me since then and I have now decided to sell due to a space issue.

The quality of the carving and the standard of cabinet making is exceedingly high and the piece has had no intervention or drastic restoration which is always an advantage with period furniture. The decorated panels are carved back from solid, a remarkable feat in itself!

The convenient size of this item makes it highly 'usable' in any surrounding, height 70.5 inches, width 44 inches, front to back at deepest point of the base 17 inches. Bookcase top 11 inches from front to back.

I include a detail picture and description of a very similar piece from an auction which took place in 1992 for reference.

The bookcase top is removable from the base which makes access very easy. The slides are adjustable and the lock and key work efficiently.

All questions are welcome and delivery is available as usual on this item.

A beautiful and genuine piece of period furniture that I will miss tremendously.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
