Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1850s.
To either side are Corinthian columns which flank the gorgeous porcelain panel hand-painted with a scene of a shepherd in the Alps, tending his flock.

The 8-day movement strikes hours and half-hours on a bell via the the count-wheel, whilst the 'moon' hands are original as is the engine-turned and gilded dial. Guaranteed at least two years. 16ins (40.5cms) high.
