Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1800s.
It is difficult to describe the quality of this remarkable cabinet without seeming to go "over the top" ~ but here goes anyway! The open upper bookcase section is surmounted by a carved arcaded cornice with pretty carved corner sections, whilst the three adjustable shelves (therefore four in total) are flanked by 'Gothick' style recessed and carved panels to either side.
When opened the interior reveals six small drawers; pigeon-holes and a blind-tooled baize writing surface inside.

Further below are two wonderful figured "flame" mahogany panelled doors, also with carved corner pieces and flanked by recessed panels which open to show 4 short but deep drawers, and a full-length one ~ all of which retain their original gilt handles. Moulded plinth base.

Hinges; locks and handles are all original and all are gilded; the drawers are lined in finest cedar-wood and the restrained carved decoration that features in both upper and lower sections, is exquisite.

Measurements: 7ft high; 43ins wide; 11ins deep (upper section) 18.5ins deep (lower section) (215 x 109 x 28 x 47cms). (*I am utterly convinced this is by Gillows, such is the quality of timber; fittings and design. Can't prove it though; suffice it to say this is simply a wonderful cabinet!)
