Very Rare Leroy Bottom-wind Carriage Clock

Description

A VERY fine and rare "Bottom Wind" CARRIAGE CLOCK by Leroy et Fils, Palais Royale, PARIS.

Of good large size, this superb carriage clock features the famous keyless winding system patented by Leroy, with the integral two-way winding key housed within the base.

The case is of "gorge" design, 6.5ins high (exc handle) whilst the 8-day movement strike hours and half-hours on a gong, repeating at will. Separate alarm train; original lever platform escapement; perfect enamel dial; original blued steel "poker" hands.

Particularly high quality throughout and although bottom-wind timepieces can occasional be found; striking and repeating examples, such as this, are extremely rare.
