The Vintage Wrist Watch Company has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The movement is signed with the Elgin name and it has the serial number 2670796 which dates it back to 1887 when it was included in a run quantity of 5000.

The watch measures 57mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop so it is a little larger than the standard 50mm pocket watches. The case was made by the American watch case maker Fahys. It is a good solid case with a screw-on bezel and case back. There are a few little indentations to the back but overall the condition is very acceptable for such an early piece.

The plastic lens is in good condition.
The dial is enamel and it is signed Elgin Nat’l Watch Co. Blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
