Description

A superb quality and rare mid/late19th century Swiss or South German "INTER-CHANGEABLE MUSIC BOX in perfect working order.

Of highest quality, this top-of-the-range music box is of burr walnut, inlaid with tulipwood and with ebonised mouldings. The lid opens to reveal the original (now laminated) music sheet, listing the total of 36 tunes, whilst when lifted, the inner glazed lid reveals the stunning movement. This is listed as "Mandoline Basse; Harp Harmonique" and includes an ornate tune indicator.

The cylinders play six tunes each and in a separate box are five further cylinders arranged in their baize-lined cradles. The movement is stamped W & H for the makers Winterholder & Hofmeier who were fine clockmakers and music box makers based in southern Germany.
