Pair of Edwardian Bergere and Leather Armchairs.

1900 - 1920
Description

A good pair of mahogany and boxwood line inlaid Bergere chairs. Bearing impressed maker's mark of "Trollope and Sons" who were well respected London cabinet makers and decorators who exhibited at several important exhibitions including Crystal Palace in 1852 and the International Exhibition of 1862. Throughout their long history they had showrooms and premises in Belgravia, Grosvenor Street and Vauxhall. This pair of chairs were made for the music room of the Edwardian cruise ship, The S.S. Orsova (see photos and link). These chairs stand on vase turned and tapered front legs and outswept back legs. The arms have padded armrests with brass studding and conforming vase turned supports. The rattan seats, backs and sides in good condition with 1 small hole (possibly re-caned at some time). The cushions re-upholstered in top quality hand dyed leather with back and front buttoning, piped edging and feather cushions.
