Mahogany Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A very nice quality Mahogany Cheshire Longcase Clock by Nathaniel Dumvile of Stockport. The Clock case is made of mahogany with figured mahogany panels to the front, edged with boxwood and ebony stringing. The Clock also has reeded columns to the case and the hood. The movement is an eight day brass dial with anchor escapement, subsidiary seconds and date calender wheel.

The back of the clock dial and the falseplate is stamped :

'FINNEMORE & SONS'

Finnemore & Sons were well known for making clock dials.

The Clock dial is painted with rolling moon action, terrestrial globes, roman numerals and finished with floral decoration to the corners.

The Clock face has the makers name:

N. DUMVILE STOCKPORT

The Dumvile family were well known clock makers in the Cheshire area. Nathaniel Dumvile was born in 1793 and died in 1842 he was a watch and clock maker at 93 Lower Hillgate in Stockport. He went into the clock business in 1823.

The Clock movement has been cleaned and serviced.
