The hinged lids move around to help lift the lids and clear the pen rack behind, each has a glass liner for easy re-filling and cleaning. Each of the lids is mounted with a riding crop and cap. Behind is a large horseshoe with crossed riding crops and a central cap; the horseshoe "nails" acting as pen rests for one's dip pens.

The pair of candlesticks echo the same design creating a wonderful desk-top ensemble for the horse lover. Dating to around 1890, the set is beautifully polished and remains in excellent condition. The inkstand measures 9" x 5 1/2" and stands 7" at rear; the candlesticks have a base diameter measuring 4 1/2" and stand 9" tall.
