1940s 9 carat gold wrist watch.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement, with 15 jewels, which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours. The movement has the small snail logo which was the trademark of Arthur Schnegg from La Chaux De Fonds in Switzerland.

The watch measures 22mm wide excluding the winding crown and 31mm high excluding the lugs - it would suit a slimmer wrist. The case is 9 carat rose gold and there are hallmarks inside the hinged case back for London 1942 with a maker’s mark for the City Watch Case Company (Louis Arnould). The finish has worn off the winding crown so it is a greyish silver colour. The case has a convex lens.

The dial has hints of Art Deco style with the square minute track, with a metallic effect inner edge, and a square subsidiary seconds dial. Blued steel hands. There is some marking to the dial but all very acceptable for such an early piece.

A new black leather strap has been fitted.
