Antique Miniature Mokeskin Plush Silk Top Hat

Description

A rare antique 'moleskin' plush silk miniature top hat by A.J. White, Jermyn St, London. With a tall crown and a curved brim often referred to as 'bell-shaped', felt ribbon and grosgrain ribbon to the edge of the brim.

The interior stamped 'EXTRA QUALITY A.J. WHITE HATTER & CAP MAKER, 74&63 JERMYN STT, ST. JAMES'S'.

These hats are often referred to as moleskin but are actually made from a silk plush with a long nap giving the appearance of moleskin. The looms that made this fabric no longer in existence and are therefore no longer in production.

4 5/8" (12cm) high

A gorgeous little hat and quite a rarity. Sadly it does have moth damage.
