Hand of Glory has dated this piece to the 1920s.
It has later been marked on the interior with a previous owner's name. There does not appear to be any reference to the size of the hat but it measures 56cm around the inner edge - I would estimate it being a medium.
These hats are often referred to as moleskin but are actually made from a silk plush with a long nap giving the appearance of moleskin. The looms that made this fabric no longer in existence and are therefore no longer in production.
The hat is in very good overall condition, the silk plush in excellent condition, the felt band has a small amount of moth damage but this is not at all noticeable.
With an associated antique hat box.
