Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The canted-corner box is beautifully decorated with classical scenes against shaded backgrounds, to the front; top; sides and inside the lid, which when opened reveals the matching set of two hobnail-cut glass canisters and central hobnail-cut sugar bowl.
Original key. Hallmarked for London 1807. A sumptuous tea caddy! 11ins (28cms) wide.
The hallmarks include one for the makers: Thomas Phipps and Edward Robinson.
