A Superb Regency Tea Caddy Dated 1807

19th century
Description

An unusual, complete and very fine quality Regency period ENGLISH TEA CADDY in superb original condition.

The canted-corner box is beautifully decorated with classical scenes against shaded backgrounds, to the front; top; sides and inside the lid, which when opened reveals the matching set of two hobnail-cut glass canisters and central hobnail-cut sugar bowl.

The canisters have wonderful quality engraved and fire-gilded hinged lids, fully hallmarked, as are the hinges to the box and the outside handle. Original key. Hallmarked for London 1807. A sumptuous tea caddy! 11ins (28cms) wide.

*The hallmarks include one for the makers: Thomas Phipps and Edward Robinson.
