1920s La Tavannes half hunter pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours. The movement is signed La Tavannes, and it is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The gold plated half hunter case was made by the English watch case maker Aaron Dennison. The case has the odd minor mark but overall the condition is good for such an early piece.

The lens are later plastic replacements; the small outer one is in good condition and the inner lens has some marking towards the edge but is very acceptable. The smaller lens on the front is surrounded by black enamel Roman numerals; two of the numbers have a little enamel loss.

The winding crown pushes to release the front cover. Inside there is an enamel dial. There is a hairline crack running across the dial. Blued steel hands (they are the special half hunter hands so the time can be read when the front cover is closed; conventional hour and minute hands would look the same through the small lens and it would be difficult to tell the hour hands from the minute hand).
