17th Century French Oak Housekeepers Cupboard, Armoire

17th century
Sold by Elmgarden
Description

16th Century French Oak Housekeepers Cupboard, Armoire

This Old and roomy cupboard is made in solid panelled Oak, needless to say it is very heavy

The two large doors enclose a deep cupboard with a pine shelf, each of the doors and the lower bottom panel are in a three panel formation with geometric patterns carved on them

The doors have brass escutcheons, iron hinges and there is a lock and key but these are not original to the piece, and do not provide good locking

The cornice at the top of the cupboard is removable as are the doors, this does help a little to reduce the weight for transportation but this one comes with a health warning, it is very heavy

All in all this is piece is in good condition considering its great age there are old repairs as you would expect, it had been attacked by wood worm, this has been treated but it has left scars on the back and floor of the cupboard,

The cupboard stands 73” high it is 55” wide and 27”deep

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
