P A Oxley Antique Clocks & Barometers has dated this piece to the 1750s.
The 12" arched brass dial has a silvered brass chapter ring, a matted with a square date aperture and also features seconds and blued steel hands. Unusual Seasonal spandrels surround the chapter ring along with sea creature designed spandrels to the arch. The arch also features a silvered a cartouche displaying the makers name and place of work.
The well proportioned and oak case has a long trunk door, brass escutcheon and a plain base with double plinth of typical Norwich design. The hood has attached pillars with gilt wooden capitals, inspection windows to both sides and a broken arch top.
Note: The Amyott family were of French Huguenot descent. They were prolific Clockmakers throughout the 18th century in the City of Norwich. Thomas Amyott died on 2nd February 1767, aged 69.
