Antique Japanese Moriage Stick Stand, Slip Earthenware, Umbrella Pot, C.1910

Description

Antique Japanese stick or umbrella stand, c.1910

Colourful in raised enamel, glazed slipware or 'moriage' this profusely decorated stand depicts charming oriental scenes framed with foliage and floral detail interspersed with stylised elephant heads and bead work.

Hidden amongst the decoration, the pot is pierced through to the inside allowing airflow and moisture egress from the inside. The upper and lower lips crimped and flared, beneath is an indistinct mark.

In good antique condition the underside bears no cracks or repairs, only a few minor dinks to the exposed earthenware as seen in the photos.
