Antique Hanging Shelf, Bookcase, English Oak Pugin Inspired Gothic Revival c1870

English oak antique hanging shelf from the mid-Victorian period c.1870, with ecclesiastical overtones.

Very much in the gothic revival style, drawing upon Medieval art inspired by Pugin, this hanging shelf is beautifully carved, the focal point a quatrefoil window around a stylised central rosette which sits within an arched form.

The deep relief carving continues in the flanks with floral and foliate motif offering glimpses of the shelf space behind. The piece is topped with a subtly curved plinth.

Supplied with fixings ready to hang, solid joints, waxed and polished ready for the home.
