It features a carved front depicting soldiers and maidens, the carving detailed with black penwork much of which is still clear. Cassone of this type were made as marriage gifts in northern Italy, the piece has great age and colour and given it was made in C1580 is in good overall condition. There is a framing piece missing from the top which is visible on the pictures. It has been missing for a long time and the top below has a wonderful shadow and patina.
