Heavy-quality brass corners and strapping throughout. The mahogany-lined drawers with cedar-wood bottoms. One drawer base stamped in multiple places with a cabinet-makers mark "R.Gurnsey ", whilst the rear of one drawer stamped "J.Tong" probably his apprentice.

The chest also bears numerous paper retailers labels for "J.W.Randall & Co." of Chatham . The significance of this being the siting of the expansive Naval dock-yards at Chatham, Kent, where military officers would have embarked for overseas duty and acquired chests like this and other campaign furniture for their use during service.
Good mellow , golden patina , in overall excellent condition with some minor marks and scratches commensurate with age, use and purpose.
Cleaned and waxed ready to use.
